The North East Area of NAFAS were delighted to stage the NAFAS Exhibit at this year's Chelsea Flower Show. The inspiration for the design is from Monet's Garden at Giverny, in particular, his series of water lily paintings. The exhibit was designed and constructed by a team of ten NAFAS members from Yorkshire and includes over 2,500 stems of flowers and has taken over 3,000 man-hours to design. Team Leader, Jonathan Moseley, comments "The scale and magnitude of the installation will test our skills as floral designers as we 'paint pictures with flowers' and bring the canvasses to life."
The Chelsea Flower Show has been held in the grounds of the Chelsea Hospital every year since 1913, apart from gaps during the two World Wars.
It used to be Britain’s largest flower show (it has now been overtaken by Hampton Court), but is still the most prestigious. From the beginning it has contained both nursery exhibits and model gardens. Every year there have been exhibits from foreign countries as well as from Britain.
It is the flower show most associated with the Royal family, who attend the opening day every year.
